Personal Addiction Counseling

Addictive behaviors can develop in many different ways and may involve substances such as drugs or alcohol, or behaviors such as gambling or compulsive sexual activity. What may begin as occasional use or behavior—often in social or recreational settings—can gradually become more frequent and difficult to control. Over time, a person may find themselves relying on a substance or behavior to cope with stress, escape difficult emotions, or simply feel “normal” or “good.”

As addiction progresses, it can begin to affect many areas of life, including relationships, work, finances, and emotional well-being.

Common signs and behaviors associated with addiction may include:

  • Feeling a strong urge or need to engage in the substance or behavior regularly

  • Experiencing intense cravings or urges that are difficult to control

  • Needing increasing amounts or more frequent engagement to achieve the same effect

  • Spending significant time thinking about, planning for, or engaging in the behavior or substance use

  • Prioritizing the addiction over responsibilities, relationships, or daily obligations

  • Continuing the behavior despite negative consequences in your life

  • Attempting to cut back or stop but finding it difficult to do so

  • Feeling restless, anxious, or distressed when unable to engage in the behavior or use the substance

  • Taking risks or doing things you normally wouldn’t do in order to maintain the addiction

If you recognize any of these experiences in your own life, addiction counseling may be an important step toward change and recovery.

In counseling, we will work together to understand the patterns underlying your addiction, address areas of life that have been impacted, and develop a personalized plan that supports your recovery and long-term well-being.

Recovery looks different for everyone. I believe there are many paths to healing, and together we can find an approach that aligns with your goals, values, and vision for a healthier life.
